4th quarter report - october to december 2022

As we look back on 2022, our partners on the ground have continued their hard work in providing aid to those who need it most.

EYE CAMPS

We have had a record breaking year of eye surgeries, and have supported 155 eye camps, and over 8,400 successful cataract surgeries took place.

Our partners have achieved some incredible results, including operating on over 15 children who were born blind and now able to see for their first time!

WATER WELLS

BCT have continues to commission water wells in locations that have dire need. This year we are extremely proud to have built a total of 45 wells.

We are continuously grateful to our ground partners for their huge efforts in providing water to those who need it most.

MANAKARA GIRLS SCHOOL

BCT are co sponsoring a girls school in Manakara, Madagscar with our partners CAI.

This area has several remote villages where there are no schools. Poor children remain unschooled due to poverty, and unavailable education opportunities. Students must relocate to major cities for elementary/higher education and live in hostels.

This school will provide a dorm for 140 poor students, and living quarters for 140 orphans, with capacity for around 500 students at full strength.

Keep your eye out for exciting news on the opening of the school coming in Quarter 1!

YEMEN AID

BCT have continued to support Yemen by donating $48,000 in 2022 for the distribution of food parcels and baby milk. We are proud to be continuing this programme in 2023.

Photos below show just some of these distributions taking place.

ORTHOPEDIC CAMP

BCT worked alongside our partners CHEPS holding their first ever Orthopaedic Surgical Camp at Thika Hospital, Kenya. 20 patients received surgery.

Road traffic injuries kill more than 1.3 million people every year. Low and Middle Income countries like Kenya account for 93% of all road traffic deaths worldwide.

Orthopaedic fractures are the most common injury to occur. Most of the time, such injuries affect young breadwinners on their way to and from work. Most are unable to afford the high cost of surgery, and remain un operated with their fractures healing poorly. Families are plunged into poverty as their breadwinner is unable to work. This new outreach programme will treat patients that are unable to afford surgery, free of charge.

PAKISTAN FLOOD EMERGENCY APPEAL

The catastrophic flooding across Pakistan has caused extreme damage, sweeping away the homes and livelihood of thousands of people. The death toll has reached over 1,000 with many more left stranded, with no roof over their head.

Your kind donations have supported with medical and food aid distributions.

Our partners have requested further assistance and funding for 200 houses. Our first target is to raise funding for 20 homes, each home costing £916.82.

PAMOJA LEO

BCT are proud to partner with Pamoja Leo on The Baby Project. Supporting any baby in Tanga, Tanzania with no lactating mother, providing the formula milk and support needed to keep the family together and stop the baby being placed into orphanage care. Since the beginning of the project, 100 babies have been resettled into families.

100% of those children remain in the family they were placed with avoiding transferral to orphanages!

£48 - Provides 8 tins of milk, which feed a baby for one month

BCT previously sponsored Pamoja Leo's school bus, and now additionally support funding of their bus driver, cook and videographer.

IGALULA SCHOOL

The school in Kigoma, Tanzania was in poor repair and students were sitting on dirt floors.

Thanks to your kind donations, a new toilet block was constructed and desks and chairs were supplied. Over 900 students are now enjoying their new modern school.

KEEP THE GIRLS IN SCHOOL

Many girls who grow up in poverty often cannot afford menstruation protection, which commonly leads to school absenteeism and some girls dropping out altogether. BCT are proudly working with our partners CHEPS, producing reusable sanitary towel kits. A huge 10,000 kits have been produced so far and the amazing work continues!

UK PROJECTS

HAND ON HEART

BCT have continued to support Hand on Heart with the biggest Winter Warmer campaign to date. A huge 2,000 packs were assembled and distributed to vulnerable groups. This is an increase of 40% from last years campaign, taking the total packs for this year to 10,790!

Total cost of the campaign came to £59,896.65 of which BCT have donated a substantial 59.5%!

We are very proud to have also sponsored their Annual Christmas Gift Pack Appeal. This meant that in addition to helping homeless and vulnerable groups, we were able to bring a little Christmas cheer to children from all faiths and backgrounds. 420 gift bags filled with books, pencils, markers, activity books and chocolate were assembled and distributed to poorly children who were spending the holidays in hospital. The gift bags were delivered to over 10 hospitals in Basildon, Birmingham, Edmonton, Harrow, London (GOSH & St Thomas), Milton Keynes, Northampton, Romford, Upper Holloway and Watford.

Alongside this, our match funding has supported their Welfare Advice Service.
