Eye Camps 2024

Cataracts and uncorrected refractive errors are the two leading causes of visual impairment around the world and there are over 90% of people suffering from visual impairment live in developing countries. Cataract surgery can take minutes, but cataracts still cause 49% of the world’s blindness due to lack of optical aid.

Beta Charitable Trust is continually committed to supporting the establishment of medical clinics and mobile medical and eye camps throughout the World.  As COVID-19 has spread across the world, those already living in rural areas and marginalised from receiving medical aid are at greater risk than ever. Despite this, our partners on the ground have been continuing their efforts and providing cataract surgeries where possible. Whilst there have been a pause in camps for some partners, others have been able to continue with safe distancing and restrictions in place.

These life changing surgeries are vital in aiding the needy across rural areas of Kenya, Tanzania and India. We are very grateful to our partners on the ground who have pushed through the uncertainty and continued their hard work by restoring sight and giving hope for a brighter future. Their work during these dangerous times is hugely significant.

2021 eye camps

In 2021, we facilitated 125 sight giving eye camps in Kenya, Tanzania and India, with over 4,500 sight restoring cataract surgeries! A huge thank you to our partners on the ground, without their hard work and dedication, these eye camps would not be possible, and a huge thank you to our donors and supporters. You are creating a vision, one cataract at a time.

2020 eye camps

In 2020 we supported 79 eye camps where over 10,000 patients were screened, and 3000 successful cataract surgeries took place.
