4th quarter report - a reflection on 2021 and objectives for 2022

As we look back on 2021, our partners on the ground have continued their hard work in providing aid to those who need it most. the projects below will be continued and enhanced over the course of 2022.

eye camps

Despite the unprecedented times, our partners on the ground have continued their hard work in serving the poorest in society.

In 2021, we supported 125 eye camps, and over 4,500 successful cataract surgeries took place.

water wells

BCT have continued to commission water wells in locations that have dire need. This year we are extremely proud to have built a total of 52 wells. We are continuously grateful to our ground partners for their huge efforts in providing water to those who need it most.

Look out for info regarding our new desalination project, coming soon!

vaccinations

We have successfully delivered over 15,000 Covid 19 vaccines in Pakistan, 1,100 in Africa and 2,600 in West Bengal.

Our Yemen Cholera Appeal has enabled over 10,000 children to receive their Cholera vaccine. The vaccine programme will continue into 2022.

The photos below show the team carrying out their amazing work.

yemen aid

BCT have continued to support Yemen by donating $48,000 in 2021 for the distribution of food parcels and baby milk. We are proud to continue this programme into 2022.

The photos below show some of these distributions taking place.

tree planting in kenya

The global rate of deforestation is alarmingly high. It is estimated that the world uses 25% more forest resource than can be sustained each year. Forests are quickly being cleared by human activities such as settlement, timber harvest and energy production.

Beta Charitable Trust are delighted to have supported our partners CHEPS in planting 3,360 trees in Chakama Village, Kilifi County. Project continues into 2022.

The images below show the team hard at work.

winter blankets

Winters in Afghanistan, Iraq, India and Yemen are bitter and brutal, and can kill the most vulnerable, both old and young.

We have supported our partners CAI, in the distribution of 14,000 blankets in these four locations.

KENYAN DROUGHT DISASTER

The rains in Kenya failed, and huge parts of the country were badly affected by drought. Chakama is one such area. With your help, we were able to work with our partners on the ground CHEPS, and distribute 19 tons of food relief to 513 of the most vulnerable households, across 7 villages in this area. Each parcel contained:

  • 24kg Maize Flour

  • 10kg Beans

  • 2.5l Oil

  • 1kg Salt

UK PROJECTS

BCT are equally passionate about assisting those in need in the UK as well as internationally.

Sufra

We were proud to support our good friends at Sufra and as part of their Winter ‘Giving Hope’ Campaign, providing 150 food parcels a week, as well as 220 freshly cooked meals to vulnerable individuals and families unable to cook for themselves. We were privileged to provide £15,000 of match funding for them.

Hand on Heart

Every year, thousands of individuals and families in the UK will experience some form of homelessness.

We are proud to support HoH throughout the year with their essential homeless support campaigns. Each year at this time, we support HoH with their Winter Warmer Pack Campaign.  A record breaking 1,300 were assembled and distributed to vulnerable groups. On this occasion, we also supported 200 evacuees from Afghanistan who are settling in the UK.

We supported HoH with just over £27,864 for this extremely worthwhile winter project!

Wear it Pink – Breast Cancer Awareness

As we do every year, we celebrated Wear it Pink and raised funds for Breast Cancer Awareness Day. We are very pleased to share that we raised £706.59!

National Christmas Jumper Day – Save the Children

Festive fun was had by all as on the 10th December we celebrated National Christmas Jumper Day to raise money for Save the Children. We raised £271.44
