Men, women and children are going hungry and thirsty. Weak from hunger, they are having to walk several times the usual distance in search of water which they are not guaranteed is there. Animals are dying in their thousands and there are fears that human deaths could soon follow if nothing is done.

Chakama, in the North of Kilifi region, is one of many areas that has been badly affected by the drought. Comprised of 40 villages, it’s one of the poorest of Kenya’s 47 counties. The estimated population is about 15,000 across 4,000 households. The community lives under very harsh conditions and lacks access to essential needs including clean water, sanitation, food, healthcare, Covid support and electricity.

BCT have been working in the Chakama area for over 10 years, building wells, schools and supporting the population.
