STRIVING AGAINST STARVATION 2023

828 million people worldwide are undernourished and exist on less than £1 per day.

BCT's annual Food Parcel Campaign, SAS 23 took place from March to June,providing aid to the poorest and most deprived communities.

This year, our focus was predominantly Afghanistan, Yemen and Syria, as wellas India, Pakistan, and countries across East Africa. We also focused on theUnited Kingdom, where we are working with food banks and refugee support.

A huge 4,465 food parcels were distributed, which reached 7,625 families!

TURKEY AND SYRIA EARTHQUAKE

BCT are continuing to raise urgent funds for the catastrophic humanitarian disaster that has taken place due to the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

Our partners on the ground are working hard supporting survivors in the aftermath, mobilizing warm blankets, potable water, food and emergency medication to local hospitals.

EYE CAMPS

Cataracts and uncorrected refractive errors are the two leading causes of visual impairment around the world, and 90% of people suffering from visual impairment are living in developing countries.

In the second quarter of 2023, BCT have supported 31 eye camps, and over 1,521 surgeries have been carried out!

In quarter 1, BCT sponsored 26 eye camps and over 809 surgeries.

WATER WELLS

Beta Charitable Trust's commitment to making clean water accessible for all continues.

We are pleased to let you know that a huge 40 wells have already been commissioned for 2023.

Further wells are available in:

  • Kenya at $1,800

  • Tanzania at $2,500

  • Pakistan at £650 water tank well and £175 hand pump

JUNNAR SCHOOL - PUNE, INDIA

Due to the natural growth of the number of students, the successful United English Medium School, in Junnar, is desperately in need of extension.

The ground breaking work took place in March for an extension that will house classrooms over 3 floors, adding another 7,500 square feet to the original building.

Images below show the progress so far, construction is now working towards the second and third floors.

ANAMIL AL RAHMA SCHOOL

Having already sponsored 3 brand new classrooms in the new Anamil Al Rahma Secondary School in Diwaniyah, Iraq, construction is now under way on the third floor extension.

This extension will provide another 6 classrooms, an administration room and a teachers room.

The images below show the already complete classrooms and the work on the third floor that has taken place to date. Total cost for the extension and furnishing is $126,070 and funds are currently short by $59,200.

Work has currently halted due to the lack of funds.

Your support would be gratefully received for this project.

There are orphans in need of sponsorship in both the Primary and Secondary School.

You can contribute to sponsoring an orphan for $1,200 per student, per year.

Sponsorship will include - teaching, transportation, nutrition, clothing, stationary and health care.

ZAINABIYA SCHOOL

Beta Charitable Trust have recently sponsored a brand new 48 seater bus for the Zainabiya School, Kareempur, India.

This bus will allow children from outside the village to attend school daily.

STUDENT SPONSORSHIP

BCT are very proud to have sponsored 3 students higher education studies through our partners Raza Trust.

Two of these students are girls from very poor families being sponsored to study Law and Medical Sciences.

Additionally, BCT sponsor 10 students in India through our partners CAI. The scholarships are provided to poor students with exceptional grades to allow them to pursue a university education.

We are excited to follow the students on their education journey.

KEEP THE GIRLS IN SCHOOL

BCT continue to work with our partners CHEPS, on their Keep the Girls in School campaign.

Workshops in 11 schools in 3 villages in Chakama, Kenya have recently taken place. A huge 1,177 reusable sanitary kits were distributed to school girls and village ladies.

In addition to our continued work with CHEPS, Beta Charitable Trust have recently sponsored 1,000 reusable sanitary pads with our partners on the ground, The Desk and Chair Foundation in Mwanza, Tanzania.

YEMEN AID

BCT continues to support Yemen and has pledged to continue to donate $12,000 every quarter for baby milk powder and essential food items.

UK PROJECTS

Charity begins at home, and BCT are equally as passionate about assisting those in need in the UK as well as internationally.

HAND ON HEART

BCT continue to support our wonderful partners Hand on Heart.

We believe it is just as important to provide essential items in the upcoming summer months. We will be assembling and distributing 1,000 packs to vulnerable groups in June and August in a Summer Campaign.

Each drawstring bag will be filled with -

  • Polo Shirt

  • Underwear (3 pairs)

  • Socks (3 pairs)

  • Baseball Cap

  • Lip Balm (new item)

  • Shower Gel

  • Deoderant

  • Wet Wipes

  • Toothbrush/Toothpaste

  • First Aid plasters

  • Bottled Water

  • Sun Cream, Sleeping Bags and Blankets will be available on request to homeless at out reach drives

In addition to this, we are also supporting Hand on Heart with their Back to School campaign, where 1,000 back to school backpacks will be provided for children of low income/disadvantaged backgrounds.

This project will provide essential school supplies to children of struggling families due to the high cost of living.

All backpacks will include as standard -

  • Reusable water flask

  • Stationary Sets (folders, dividers, notebook, sticky notes, pens, pencils, rubber, glue stick, sharpener, pencil case, ruler and highlighters)

  • USB Reading Light

Secondary School backpacks will also include -

  • Scientific Calculator

  • Helix Maths Set - (compass, pencil, protector, 2 set squares)

Primary School backpacks will include -

  • Lunch bag

  • Activity Books
