BCT has embarked upon a programme whose aim is helping to support Amputees in Tanzania. This programme helps patients, who have lost limbs to be provided with artificial ones. Here below is summary of the 7 cases recently supported by BCT. 1. Jeremia from Biharamulo about 200Km from Bukoba (Tanzania) was hit by a truck. Both of his legs and one of his hands were amputated.
2. Whilst Roges was at school playing football with his friends, the ball landed on a pile of garbage, beneath which it was burning hot where it had been set alight. Unaware of this, Roges climbed on top of the garbage to get the ball and he sunk into it and his legs started burning. He was taken to the hospital and unfortunately had to have both of his legs amputated.
3. Majid Malg was born disabled , lost his parents and became an orphan at the age of 11 years old. 4. Amos, aged 10 years old, fell down from a tree leading to his leg having to be amputated from above the knees
5. Datus developed gangrene and had to have his leg amputated. (www.wikipedia.org : Gangrene = a complication of necrosis, i.e., cell death, characterized by the decay of body tissues, which become black (and/or green) and malodorous. It is caused by infection or ischemia, such as by the bacteria Clostridium perfringens or by thrombosis (blocked blood vessel). It is usually the result of critically insufficient blood supply (e.g., peripheral vascular disease) and is often associated with diabetes and long-term smoking. This condition is most common in the lower extremities. The best treatment for gangrene is revascularization (i.e., restoration of blood flow) of the affected organ, which can reverse some of the effects of necrosis and allow healing. Other treatments include debridement and surgical amputation. The method of treatment is generally determined depending on location of affected tissue and extent oftissue loss. Gangrene may appear as one effect of foot binding.).
