| BCT helps local cancer support group |
|
On the 13th December a member of the BCT team was invited to lunch at Paul’s Cancer Support Centre in Clapham Junction, London. The lunch is an annual gathering that takes place at the support centre to honour and cater for their current patient list. The centre lay out a fabulous spread of food and drink, plus the staff creates an informal atmosphere where a very diverse group of people can meet, swap stories and make friends. The overall aim of the centre is to provide a safe, friendly and supportive environment for those affected by cancer in which to meet with the objective of helping individuals move forward and adapt to the changes that follow the diagnosis of cancer. Food, drink and laughter with other members of the support group in a similar situation helps bring back control for people. The group meetings help patients to remember that they are not alone in their fight against cancer. Whereas the lunch is an annual gathering, meetings are not. The patients can come and go as they please to discuss their condition or any problems their condition may be causing them that are not health related. People diagnosed with cancer can go through a lot of stress when it comes to telling their loved ones and receiving treatment for the disease. Paul’s Cancer Support Centre offers help and support for any issues the patient may be facing in their difficult time. The centre also offers a range of complimentary therapies as an aid both while the patient is undergoing treatment for cancer and afterwards. These therapies are offered to both patients and their families, to povide a sence of well-being and quality of life. The centre aims to continue to provide an avenue for patients who need help, advice or just someone to talk to about their condition. While hospitals provide the medical support necessary to patients diagnosed with cancer, Paul’s Cancer Support offers the help that patients need to strenghthen them mentally and emotionally to get through this difficult period. Through continued support and donations, Paul’s Cancer Support Centre will continue to try and fill the gaps between medical and emotional health, where they can to ensure a patient has all the knowledge and support they need to beat this deadly disease. BCT is very proud to be able to support Paul’s Cancer Support Centre, in total £2000 in funds was sent to them to help them carry on their valiant work.
