| Go Ahead Given For More Life Changing Operations |
|
Last year, Doctors Schaeffer and Banner from the USA travelled over 9,000 miles to Bukoba, Tanzania to complete operations that have changed people's lives. They spent a total of three weeks in this part of the world, completing 34 operations, the most brilliant of which was on an Albino child whose hands were fused together from birth due to a birth defect in the womb. Thanks to the Doctors work, he can now write and eat with his hands thanks to the doctors. On the left we see the young boy being assessed, on the right is after surgery.
There were so many success stories from the two Doctors visit that one year later, they have once again decided to dedicate more of their personal time to try and achieve even greater success. The two Doctor's will be arriving in Bukoba to perform as many surgeries as possible in five weeks. They will be performing the surgeries in two different hospitals which have been prepared for their arrival. Prior to the Doctors arrival our ground team visited the local area to identify the number of potential patients requiring an Orthopedic operation. The results are worrying, every village they visited had at least one adult or child who desperately needed surgery. Our ground team visited a very remote and neglected area called Chato in the Kagero region. Here they found that the majority of sufferers were children, all of whom needed immediate surgery. Below are the images sent from the ground team of some of the children they met: You may find some of the images below upsetting: As you can see the above pictures have a massive impact whether you understand what is wrong with the patient or not. Our ground team have located many more people suffering from Orthopedic problems, but what is shown above clearly illustrates the suffering these people endure due to their problems and what must be done in order for them to try and achieve some semblance of a normal life. Each operation the Doctors perform is said to cost around £130.00, this pays for accommodation for a parent if the patient is under 16, any food that is used, plus the operation itself. Beta Charitable Trust is supporting this cause by providing 15 operations. You can click here to help. |
