Sachek Medical Clinic Helps Over 150 People In One Month

The Sachek Medical Clinic is supported by BCT and its donors for one simple reason. It works. People travel from far and wide to use the clinic, sometimes for life threatening problems.

Doctors and professionals are hard and expensive to come by in this part of the world so the Sachek Medical Clinic provides a much needed lifeline.

In the month of August the clinic helped a total of 159 people. Some  were from the local vicinity and some had travelled much further to receive the treatment they needed  to stay healthy.

Below is a chart that shows the number of patients with the most severe conditions that visited the medical clinic and were provided with treatment.

Quincy:
Quincy is a very severe form of tonsillitis. Usually an abscess sits at the back of the throat, in-between the tonsils and the wall of the throat causing severe discomfort and pain. It renders the sufferer unable to open their mouth fully, swallow comfortably and causes constant pain whilst eating. The symptoms  can lead to other problems;  inability to eat and drink can cause lack of energy , weakness and malnourishment. This condition is treated with a course of anti-biotic and rest. Without the  course of anti-biotic, symptoms persist and can then develop into something more serious.

Lupus
Lupus is a condition where the body believes it has a disease and the immune system begins to attack the body's  healthy cells in defence. The main areas of the body that are affected are the; Heart, Lungs, Skin, Joints, Blood Vessels and Nervous System. The only real treatment is constant monitoring and a course of anti-malarial drugs. If left undiagnosed or untreated slow deterioration of health occurs leading to eventual death.

Vitamin A Deficiency:
Vitamin A Deficiency is the main cause of cataracts. It begins as night blindness which in essence is severely impaired vision at night time or in darkness. This leads to fully developed cataracts that can leave the patient completely blind. An oral supplement is given to the patient that contains their full dose of vitamins. This treatment has to be administered for some weeks and a regular intake of Vitamin A must be taken from then on to prevent the problem reoccurring.
