Empowering the Women of Moyeni and Kinango

We are all very aware of the appalling conditions that are ravaging the third world. War, famine, drought and death hang over these beautiful lands and their people. In Kenya, high inflation along with a deathly drought has worsened the economic situation. The number of people living below the poverty line has increased drastically. Impossibly high costs of living and desperate farming conditions have combined to exacerbate the situation.

Beta Charitable Trust works closely with all our ground teams who have explained how desperate the situation in the Moyeni - Kinango Distric have become. Drastic and rapid action was necessary.

The goats will provide a much needed supplement to their meagre incomes as well as provide them with a source of nourishment. The goats can be reared for their milk or slaughtered for their meat and skins. The women can have a sense of autonomy in deciding whether to use the milk and meat to sustain their own diets or whether to sell the milk for that much needed extra income. By forming a cooperative of sorts, the women can practice basic animal husbandry and ultimately create small herds to rear thus creating a larger income..

Beta Charitable Trust are constantly looking for new sustainable ways of empowering people, such as the distribution of goats to those that need it most. Money provided by our donors is essential but so are suggestions towards creating sustainable incomes. To make a donation towards any of our causes, please click our donation link. If you have any ideas or suggestions on sustainable living, please sign up to our newsletter where you can e-mail any suggestions or queries.
