| BCT helps toward medical aid for bomb victims in Kabul |
|
A deafening explosion, followed by a cloud of dust, swallowed all close by in a mist of smoke and rubble. Confusion struck fear into the hearts of those who could still stand and see. On the 6th of December 2011, a suicide bomber made his way through and mingled amongst hundreds of nnocent people who had come out to enjoy the days festivity. Once he reached the middle of the congregation, he detonated the bomb strapped to his chest. Terrified survivors ran helter skelter away from the blast, leaving behind a horrific scene of carnage. Immediately after the blast, armed police rushed to the scene, throwing a security cordon around the historic neighbourhood of Murad Khani. Communities and charities around the world felt the blast against humanity as the bomber struck down innocent people. Immediate and decisive action was quickly taken by charities and local people. Young men and women from the crowd began to move the injured to a safe location where they could seek the much needed medical help that was on route. Police began a search for anymore suspicious packages or people before sending anyone to a safe zone. Rubble and debris was moved from the vicinity and the focus of attention fell onto the injured who now looked to the heavens to save them. In total, eighty four men, women and children lost their lives due to the atrocity. Over one hundred and seventeen are in various conditions in ill-equipped hospitals around the blast area. Over £6,400 was sent to aid the people of Afghanistan in their time of need. The money sent over will be broken down into the following; food parcels for families whose main bread winners were killed and costs towards medical treatment for those injured in the blast. The clean up process has begun. The people of this town are strong and will continue to be strong for one another.
