|
BCT has funded a primary school to be built in Kareempur, India and the school was inaugurated on the 5th of October 2003, with ground floor from LKG to II standard with 76 students. In the olden days the village was called Kareempur, but it is currently been called as Holavanahalli as per the Government records. The village Kareempur (Holavanahalli), with a population of around 6,500 people, is situated at a distance of 85kms to the North-West of Bangalore and at a distance of 36kms from Tumkur the District Head Quarters. Most of the families are land less as only about 15 families are holding land to the extent of 2-5 acres, on which only dry crops can be grown. The lands are dry and dependent on rain. For the last 15-20 years the rain has failed and consequently the economy has gone down. There is no perennial source of irrigation. The workers are either agricultural or construction labourers, which is a seasonal affair. Besides a few of them are engaged in smaller business. |
