| From Rocks To Desks! Donations Provide Comfort For These Students |
|
Beta Charitable Trust received the above pictures in early 2011 and leapt at the opportunity to participate in providing the right to a comfortable and worthwhile education. On Friday the 9th of December, a surprise celebration was held at the school commemorating the 50th anniversary of Tanzanian Independence. The children of Kinamweli Primary School danced, played, joined in the celebrations and were all presented with a gift that would change their learning experience for the better. 80, three seater desks were handed over to the school during the celebration. On a surprise visit it was found that 95% of the students were using rocks as chairs and their knees or building rubble as desks. The remaining 5% are disabled students who were provided with very old basic desks for use. The new three seater desk and chair combination will improve the quality of work the students produce, vastly improve their posture and comfort and inspire them to be excited at the thought of attending school rather than dreading spending the day on a cold hard rock. The headmaster of the school, the village chairman and all the villagers thanked donors for their support on this project. The children could not believe it as they laid their eyes on what, to them, was sheer luxury as compared to the cold grey rock they spent many a lesson on. 80, three seater desks hold 240 students in total. The desks will be divided between classrooms and then brought together during assembly time and award ceremonies. There are many schools that are delivering education with competent teachers, enthusiastic students and supportive parents. The only thing that lets them down are unfinished classrooms and out of date text books, the sort of facilities we would be outraged at if our own children had no choice but to use. You can donate now to our education projects by downloading our donor form and watch as it changes people's lives. We at Beta Charitable Trust are striving to ensure that decent education with decent facilities are provided to everyone as a standard , normal basic right. As the old saying goes, “School days are the best days of your life” and anyone who is willing to embark on the challenging journey that is school deserves nothing else. You can follow all of the educational projects BCT have already funded and ones they are hoping to help fund and support by clicking our Education link and see for yourselves all the good that can come from your donations. Below are videos of the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Tanzanian Independence celebrated by the school. To make the moment of hand over really special for the children, the village chief and celebration organisers decided to hold desk handovers on the day of the celebration. Please sit back and enjoy this wonderful display of culture and appreciation. |
