| New hope as a young man is granted a donation to finish term |
|
Working hard and saving money. These are two qualities we would normally associate with adults in our community. A young man from Mombasa has shown age plays no factor in life when you have dreams and determination and a helping hand. This young man was born and brought up in one of the poorest areas in the world. Surviving each day is the main focus of most but there are some who are lucky enough to be enrolled into school and have the opportunity to learn and break free from poverty. He knew he would have to work extra hard to become successful so when he enrolled into school he did just that. He showed his appreciation of the opportunity he had been given by working nonstop and finishing high school with high grades and test scores. This did nothing to ease his poverty though. After finishing high school he still needed to enter further education which, as we all know, costs a lot of money. Realising this, the young man found work. He took a position in a bakery that demanded his attention from the early hours of the morning through to the evening dusk. As he had worked hard in acquiring education he now began to put in the same effort and determination into his working life. From this job the young man managed to save Kshs 45,000 (£287) which he put toward initialising his further education. The course he applied for is designed to prepare the business minded for real life work and the demands of the business world. It will give him the essential skills and knowledge to pursue his dreams of success. But not yet, The course costs Kshs7 3,000 (£470), and he has managed to save Kshs 45,000. The college the young man applied to got in touch with BCT and told us his story. BCT has decided to donate Kshs 23,000 (£150) to help the young man realise his dream and acquire the necessary business skills to improve his chances in the business sector. He now has the opportunity of proving himself as an educated member of society , of progressing and, in the future, of putting back into the community that raised him. You too can help.
