BCT has pledged to finance a High School in Paris (Manserah), Pakistan Geography and Demography Paris is located in the Mansehra District of North West Frontier Province. It is 75 miles away from Mansehra town along the main road from Mansehra to Kaghan (Naran). It has beautiful landscape encircled by mountainous Zones. River Kanhar flows through mid of the Village. It comprises a land area of about 20 Square Kilometers. The arable land is 100 acres only. Paris has an estimated population of 25000 (persons). The majority of the people are poor farmers, who usually live on insignificant income and seasonal migration to nearby cities by serving as cheap labor hands. The economic and social service is very low. The people travel a long distance on foot to get education and health's services from the center of their residence. The disastrous quake of October 2005 made the situation even worst.
Need of Education
In the aftermath of October 2005 quake, the education at schools (both public / private) was resumed in temporary shelters (tents). This critical situation lasted for almost two years. In that period, a tent school was established in the village to keep the students engaged in educational activities. Later on, the school was shifted into a rented building and at present, 75 students are enrolled in the school.
Because of limited educational facilities available in the area, drop out ratio is high and consequently literacy rate is very low. A large number of students leave schools after primary education for getting engaged with farming, which is the mainstay of livelihood for the majority of the population of Paris. However crop production lasts in feeding the population only up to two months. On top of the degradation of this arable farming, agriculture also thoroughly depends on rain, which often results in production shortfalls and consequential food insecurity. An increase of population has also been aggravating the situation and these results in shortage of arable land, hence the population has been subjected to frequent forced migration in search of work, relief assistance and handouts.
