Sustainable, clean drinking water; that is what we are trying to achieve in some of the poorest countries in the world. In many parts of Africa, poor sanitation and hygiene, coupled with a lack of maintenance to government water supplies has meant that water born diseases are common, leading to poor health, disease and often death.
Beta Charitable Trust strives to stamp this out. We are trying to provide water wells for villages across East Africa and we need your help to do so.
It is Woman and Children who have the arduous job of making the daily journey to fetch water for themselves and their kin. These journeys are hugely time consuming and hazardous and the return journeys even more difficult as they are then walking back carrying litres of water on their backs.
Go to the tap with a glass, turn on the tap and fill up the glass. The idea of getting water for most of us is as simple as that. Yet just an 8 hour plane journey away people are struggling to find clean safe water to drink. There are water holes and there are government supplied water trucks that occasionally visit small villages. These supplies are often dirty and not very well maintained.
A water well will cost between £750 - £1200, depending on the geographical location of the village that needs it.

By 2015 it is predicted by some children’s charities that there will be an estimated 400 million children orphaned around the world. Being an orphan is no Oliver Twist story. There are no musicals, there are no meals. You fight to survive and you are only ten years old, sometimes even younger. A child can be born an orphan or live in circumstances beyond his control that dictate that he becomes an orphan. War, disease, famine, poverty all play significant roles in the destiny of a child. The life of an orphan is tough; whether you are orphaned due to Aids and famine in Africa or war and flooding in Afghanistan, life is tough and miserable. Either way, the idea of defenceless children trying to survive in a harsh world is an unpleasant one.
Beta Charitable Trust is committed to changing the lives of as may orphans as it possibly can. Beta Charitable Trust are giving you the opportunity to support, sponsor and help young orphans in an attempt to make their circumstances a little easier. No more worrying where the next meal may come from. More time to concentrate on getting a good education.
£20 per month will ensure an orphan has the essentials; clothes, food, water, shelter, education and a fighting chance at survival. Visit our Donation page to make a pledge.

Cataracts have temporarily taken people's sight for generations. One of the first medical references for the condition comes from Ancient Rome where they call it 'cataracta'; Literally meaning waterfall. For a long time the clouding in the eye that cataracts creates was referred to as cascading water. Ancient Persian physicians referred to the condition as 'Naul-i-ah' meaning descent of water. Cataracts are the main cause of sight loss in third world countries, that is why the eye camps BCT set up are so precious, they either help people treat their cataracts, or diagnose it early so the blindness never occurs. There have been reports of patients gaining their sight back after more than 40 years of blindness.
For £40 you can provide a cataract patient with the gift of sight. Simply visit our Donation page today
